Day 69 - March 10

Since Botox last week, we have been trying really hard to get Shay reacquainted with his quad canes.  We made really great progress after the last round of treatment but as as tightness and tone crept back into Shay's system after a few months - Shay began to lose his confidence as he became much less steady and less trusting of his stability.  He fears a) getting hurt and b) falling in front of others - hence his desire to self preserve interferes with progress (naturally understood).

Today I created a reinforcement chart for Shay.  He will earn a sticker a day for consistently using the canes in the house.  Once he has twenty stickers, he will get his big cement mixer that he picked out from Marshalls.  I hope that this reward is enticing enough for him - really want to get his confidence back and want his canes to be his assistive device of choice for mobility for short distances.  I guess only time will tell...

Very clever on the colour coding on the feet and canes! Asher has gaiters on his legs when in his stander/walker and they are different colours (not on purpose). But we realized in hindsight how much easier it made it to refer to his legs as blue and white!
