Ciaran and Shay are so different in so many ways. One very evident area where they differ is in visual motor integration skills. Ciaran struggles significantly with his visual motor skills. Completing a puzzle is extremely difficult for him, whereas, for Shay puzzles are a breeze. Visual-motor integration refers to the ability to coordinate the motor movement with visual stimulus. The child with a difficulty in this area has problems coordinating what he/she sees with an appropriate motor response required in fine motor skills, as, for example, in copying or in gross motor as kicking a football or shooting a ball into a basket. We are working hard on these skills at home and Ciaran has made huge gains in putting puzzles together in the last few weeks. Go Ciaran!
